IMO, it's better to change few texts in UI as you see fit.  u may end up spending more time trying to modify someone else's work.  Gnuboard isn't so complicated where you need a full-blown language pack. 

FYI, to save trouble, u should really use Gnuboard DTD version instead of the Gnuboard 4.

There are numerous coding issues with Gnuboard 4 as that version is quite old & uses tables to layout its view pages. 

Unless u enjoy torturing yourself, you should stick with DTD version which uses standard/modern coding.

Wow, u got an ambitious plan. 

I had built few multi-lingual sites in the past and I always ended up building separate pages for each language because it's impossible to translate Korean into English using various translation APIs. 

Maybe your approach works in other languages but when I use Google translate to translate Korean into English or vice versa for example, outcome gets ridiculously funny. (Actually, Chinese or Japanese to English gets even funnier.)

I mean, what's the use of perfectly translated menu when your content is all out of whack?  What's the point?

Anyhow, u might want to look into few jQuery translator plug-ins if you are serious about building your language packs.

I just want to give you a heads up.  There are soooo many hard-coded (Korean) messages and print-outs in PHP and javascript files.  Also get ready to replace lots of images with Korean letters on them..  it is frakking exhausting...
